Tackle  Gulu Trail  for SPCA

MAKE sure you are fit and ready to take part in this year’s Gulu Trail Challenge in aid of East London SPCA on July 31
The running event starting at 9am will be hosted by the Nedbank Running Club of East London on three private farms in the Gulu area.

The main sponsors are Tribal Trading, Sondelani Group of Pharmacies, Big Up Drinks, Futurelife, and the Friends of  Gulu group.

“The routes are very picturesque and will make for the perfect day out for any nature lover. The area has an enormous amount of indigenous flora, as well as a lot of birdlife to admire,” Nedbank Running Club East London club manager Nadia Lucouw said. “The first 4km will take runners across the Mshumani River, and back again.

“From there, the 10km runners will go to the Gulu River, and return to the starting point.”

There will be a 4km and 10km option. Both routes are fairly technical and not suitable for young children. There will be three water points, hosted by the Sondelani Group of Pharmacies, as well as refreshments at the finish by Big Up Drinks.

EL SPCA general manager Allen Westerberg said last year they raised about R3000 and they are hoping to raise more this year.

“This year we have two distances for different fitness and enjoyment levels, so it is going to be fun and we are also hoping for great weather.”

This run will support the #RunClean campaign by making use of a cup system at water points. Cups will also be paper, which is biodegradable, should any of them slip through your fingers.

“There will be gifts for finishers in both distances, and medals to the top three male and female finishers in both distances,” Lucouw said.

There will also be food stalls, coffee stalls and a kiddie cycle area.

Entries are R50 for the 4km and R100 for the 10km and are available from the EL SPCA, as well as Tribal on Wednesday evenings between 5.30pm and 6.30pm.

Participants can also look forward to a lucky draw for a weekend away for two in a B&B cottage overlooking the Gulu Lagoon, sponsored by the Friends of Gulu group.
