Help fill children’s pencil bags

AS WE approach the time for giving and sharing, do not forget to include on your list those less fortunate than you.

For the second consecutive year, the public is asked to assist East London Youth Care Centre (ELYCC) with their back to school campaign by filling a pencil bag and ready for school 2017 by donating school uniforms.

The centre is currently caring for 105 children and it is a struggle to ensure that each child is ready for the new school year. This is why they are calling on donors and friends for support and assistance for next year.

This is one of the largest children’s homes in the city and caters for children from different schools.

The centre receives financial support from the Department of Social Development but this is minimal and has not been increased in the past seven years, so they are more reliant on donor support.

With last year’s donations, every child was able to go to school in a new uniform, school bag and stationery and according to ELYCC public relations and marketing officer Larné Robus, that is important for a child.

“It was great to see all of them in clean, neat and tidy uniforms. They were ready for the year and that is what we want. It makes them ready to face the year ahead with confidence. This would never be possible without the East London public and we are so grateful,” she said.
