Life just got easier for BCM pre-payers

BUFFALO City Metro (BCM) residents will be pleased to know that they can now purchase BCM electricity in the comfort of their own homes and no longer have to wait in long queues.

In October, executive mayor Xola Phakathi revealed his action plan for the first 100 days in office to senior BCM managers, politicians and the media.

One of many things he promised was that the metro’s ratepayers will have a pre-payment system to buy prepaid electricity through the internet, ATM and cellphones.

The city finally introduced the new technology to assist its challenged electricity vendor system earlier this month.

In the past, BCM ratepayers have had to endure long queues and the weather when wanting to buy electricity at vendors.

BCM spokesman Sibusiso Cindi said the system is functioning and no challenges have been experienced.

To be able to do this, you have to register at www.wireit.co.za and there are three steps to follow:

●Step 1

Fill out all the mandatory fields and necessary details. (Marked as ‘*’).

The meter number must have 11 digits.

The cellphone number should be valid and active.

The password must be seven characters long and have numbers and characters.

The e-mail address must be valid and active.

●Step 2 – activate service

●Step 3 – login and use the online service

Cindi said BCM had not yet detected which option was most popular.

“We are not sure yet, it will depend on [our] customers, and a time will have to pass for BCM to assess which functions are most popular,” he said.

To register using the SMS option, SMS only your 11- digit meter number to 36073, which will cost R5.

You will then receive a response SMS.

BCM residents on Facebook are thrilled with the service.

In a post on Crime Spotter, Basil Clifford wrote: “Registered, works like a bomb and you don’t have to give them any banking details, just your name and meter number.”
