Last week Friday she paid a visit to Sinomonde Primary School in Orange Grove, in East London, to hand over packets of instant porridge she collected.

“We decided on breakfast because most of the children go to school on empty stomachs,” she said.

“They are not able to concentrate in class and some even collapse. So the porridge will really help them.

“I worked with a friend, Babalwa Mbuku, of Operation Feed a Child, who had visited the school for something else when this situation came to her attention.

“She asked me to lend a hand. I then posted a plea to my friends on social media. We collected over 100 packets of instant porridge in two days.”

But the Good Samaritan does not want it to end there.

“After our visit to the school on Friday we wanted to do more. The joy and appreciation from both the staff and the pupils tugged at our heartstrings.

“We then decided that we will keep on collecting porridge every week until there is a long-term plan to assist the school.

“We would really like to extend our help to other schools with a similar problem.”

Sinomonde Primary principal Vuyisile Nkohla said: “We are very grateful to these young ladies for their help. Most of the pupils here depend entirely on the meal they get here at school.”

Anyone who wishes to donate or help in any way can call Yonela on 079-811-3358 or Babalwa on 072-866-7323.
