MILESTONE MAGIC

On August 24 the Agency for Refugee Education, Skills Training and Advocacy (Aresta) held a graduation ceremony for those refugees and asylum seekers who have successfully completed their language and self-reliance courses. The graduation ceremony awarded certificates to students who completed Level 1 and Level 2 English and Xhosa language training. Certificates for the livelihood and self-reliant skills training courses were also awarded to refugees and asylum seekers. These courses include home-based care, hospitality, nail and beauty therapy, computer and ICT, as well as business entrepreneurship. Many of the refugees who successfully completed their training, are now employed at SPAR and several old age homes around East London. Some of the students have also started their own small businesses with the skills they acquired
