THE Stirling Jazz Band will be hosting their annual dance in the Stirling High School hall on Friday, May 11.
Starting at 7pm, the evening includes three hours of Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington- styled big band swing music to dance to, as well as performances by the Stirling Primary Band and the high school’s junior, intermediate and big bands.
Stirling Jazz Band’s many successes include tours to Germany, the Netherlands, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Britain, as well as some of South Africa’s big festivals, such as the Standard Bank Johannesburg Joy of Jazz, the Standard Bank Jazz Festival in Grahamstown and the Hilton Festival.
Over the years, numerous band members have also been selected for the National Schools Jazz Band.
Last year, the band celebrated 25 years and recorded a milestone CD with the Cape Town jazz band of Mike Rossi as guest artists.
The CD will be on sale at the event.The evening will also see a pop-up gin bar offering exotic and interesting flavours.
Patrons are also welcome to bring their own food and drinks.Tickets for the dance can be purchased at the school office at R80 with the proceeds going towards the cost of the band’s upcoming tours. A limited number of tickets is available.
