AS PART of a fundraising initiative, Down’s Syndrome Association Amathole (DSAA) had a steak evening event at the Hamilton Sports Club on Friday.
Branch director Denise Taylor said they did various fundraising events during the course of the year to raise funds for the association in order to continue operating.
“We also use these opportunities to create awareness among st the general public and those attending the evening can meet some of our Down’s Syndrome Self Advocates and witness their love of music and dancing,” she said.
The association, which also aims to improve the quality of life for those with Down’s syndrome, also provides an outreach and support programme at Frere Hospital on Wednesdays and at Cecilia Makiwane Hospital on Tuesdays.
“We mainly operate outside the office by distributing information to new parents on the birth of their child and supporting the family by way of counselling, as well as distributing information on Down’s syndrome to clinics and hospitals,” said Taylor said.
She added that a raffle was done on the evening with the lucky winner walking away with a R1000 prize.
The next fundraising event will be a 5km fun run on July 21 – sponsored by BUCO. All are invited to join and support this worthy cause.
