Spes Bona win thrilling Top 8 final

Sport enthusiasts were kept entertained during the King William’s Town sub-union Top 8 rugby competition played at the Victoria Grounds in King William’s Town recently.

Spes Bona from Mdingi emerged champions after their hard-fought 15-12 victory against Blue Jet from Ndevana in a thrilling finale which had the crowd on their feet right up to the final whistle. Spes Bona dominated Zwelitsha-based Black Lion 27-14 in the quarterfinals while a tough match against Jubisa Brothers saw them achieve a nail-biting 20-19 victory in the semifinals.

Blue Jet handed Balasi Tigers a 34-7 rugby lesson in their quarterfinal followed by a 20-7 win against Noncampa All Blacks in the semis.

King William’s Town sub-union president Sabelo said: “The grounds were never packed like this before. People are hungry for rugby and I believe that we will attract supporters again if clubs continue to play this kind of quality rugby”.
