Race car driver Ryan Dalton has won the 1660 class in the Border Stock Car Racing regional championships, which took place on Saturday September 15 at the Summerpride showgrounds.
Dalton also took home two more trophies for Driver of the Day and Most Spectacular Driver.
“I can’t begin to explain how I feel, I’m extremely happy. I’ve now raised the bar and need to keep it up,” an the elated Dalton said.
He added that he had a new motor built in Port Elizabeth and it “performed beautifully”.
He has been competing for just over four years in dirt oval racing and is currently ranked fifth in East London.
“When I was a youngster, I used to go with my dad to races at the track and told him I wanted to compete one day,” he said.
His wife, Candiz, is very proud of her husband and hopes to see him in national competitions in the future.
“It would be amazing to build his name, build his confidence in driving and also garner more support as it’s quite a costly sport,” she said.
She added that it’s an “amazing experience” to watch him from the sidelines and his son Cole, “loves watching his dad race”.
Dalton has qualified to compete in the finals for of the Dirt Oval 4 SA (DO4SA) National 2018, to take place in Tygerberg, in Cape Town on September 22, but will not won’t be able to compete due to finances.
“Though I have sponsors whom I’m grateful for, I still need more in order to be able to provide accommodation, maintenance of the car and transport to Cape Town,” he said.
Dalton hopes to try again next year with more sponsorships.
