Dimbaza resident and sport enthusiast Zizo Papu was elected to serve as the general secretary of the SA Handball Federation in Johannesburg last weekend.
The Elective Annual General Meeting hosted at the South African Sports Confederation and Olympic Committee (SASCOC) office saw Papu as the only representative from the Eastern Cape elected to serve in the national structure.
Papu is also the president of the Buffalo City Metro Handball Association, the general secretary of the Eastern Cape Handball Association and of the Buffalo City Metro Sports Council, and is chairperson of Women’s Cricket at Border Cricket.
On top of that, she works as an assistant director at the department of human settlements in East London.
“I also actively participate in cricket, handball and netball, although I have sometimes have two meetings scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays, but time management works for me,” Papu said.
“I am doing all this for the love and passion I have for sport and want to leave behind a legacy which will inspire our youth to follow suit.”
When asked how she felt about upon being elected, she said: “It’s humbling to have been elected at a national level and I am tremendously grateful for the opportunity as I didn’t expect it.
“I would like to acknowledge all the members who stood by me all along and who supported and truly believed in me, it is much appreciated.”
