Ex-player Koyana organises event to celebrate grandmother’s life

Rather than organise a lavish party to celebrate his birthday, former footballer Dumisani Koyana will host a four-team soccer challenge at the Orlando Stadium in Mdantsane NU 2 on April 5. Koyana said the main purpose of the event was to collect shoes from participants who will be playing on the day and donating them to beneficiaries in need.

“Last year I lost someone very close to me, my grandmother. She was one person who groomed me into the person I am today. “It’s been 16 years since I last celebrated my birthday, which is on March 30, the reason being that that I lost my mother on March 31 in 2004.

“So as a way of celebrating my grandmother’s life, I have decided to do something like
paying it forward to the community,” he said.

The four teams participating will be Mdantsane/ East London Legends, Friends, Mdantsane Deejays and Beacon Bay Legends.

“I have recently established the Dumisani Koyana Foundation and its main purpose is to create life skills awareness and promote individual growth through sport. “I want the youth to enhance their sporting skills,” he said.
