I don’t think it’s much of an hyperbole to say Dolemite Is My Name is one of the funniest films I’ve seen in a good while.
It is definitely one of the best films Netflix has put out, in my opinion.
The film is a comedic retelling of the life of comedian and filmstar Rudy Ray Moore, best known for his fictional persona Dolemite.
I strongly recommend looking up more on his life and work if you get a chance.
But for now, let’s focus on this film.
Eddie Murphy takes on the role of Moore, his first R-rated movie since 1999’s Life, and he brings a fire that has been largely missing from his work for quite some time.
Murphy is a perfect combination of sincerity and vulgarity, resulting in easily one of the best performances in his career.
He is helped by an equally talented supporting cast, which includes heavy hitters such as Keegan-Michael Key, Chris Rock and Wesley Snipes.
Don’t miss it.
