Race raises money for Furry Godmother

Mike Webb, aka the Pink Fairy, and others held their second event of 2021 at Yellowsands Resort.

The MHG 25km Adventure Race and 8km Trail Run, sponsored by Mission Holding Group (MHG), was part of an ongoing series that is aimed at raising funds for various animal welfare organisations in the area.

Tessa Van Heerden, better known as the Furry Godmother, was the most recent beneficiary and overall R10,000 was raised.

The Adventure Race consisted of a mountain biking course, trail running, an obstacle course and a tubing section at the end. 45 teams of two took part, with participants having to collect special points along the route and complete an anagram at the finish.

Team Galloping Gazelles managed to secure first place, with teams Dilly & Dally and Candyland coming in second and third respectively.

Prizes were also given out for Best Dressed, won by Restless Species, Best Team Name, won by Ninja Turtles, Best Selfie, won by Monsters, and a Spirit of Endurance, which went to team Bremmer.

At the 8km trail run, over 80 people put their tekkies to the test in a course that included grass sections, river kloofing, beach running and a stretch on the dirt road. This was also the first trail run organised by Pink Fairy Multisport.

Asathandile Manuel was the overall winner, with second place going to Kamvalethu Molose and Lionell Muhlenberg taking third.

The ladies’ race was won by Lindy Vermeulen and saw Kim Hensberg secure second while Hester Ferrezuelo nabbed third.

MHG will be sponsoring another event later in the year in aid of the Qonce SPCA while Pink Fairy Multisport is planning the Crossways Hardware 25km Adventure Race and 8km Trail Run on July 3.

Entries are still open and available from all leading East London sport stores.
