Sister Desiree Schreiber has always had a passion for helping children, going back to when she ran the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at Life Beacon Bay Hospital and afterwards running Little Life Clinic in Southernwood.
Now she’s decided to use her wealth of experience and skills to start her own business, Baby Steps Wellness.
“I receive babies, measure them, watch their development milestones, and help the moms with post-natal counselling.
“I’ll also be providing antenatal classes once we can get started,” Schreiber told the GO! & Express.
Baby Steps Wellness opened its doors on October 1 this year.
“I decided I wanted to go out on my own.
“I think I always wanted to do it on my own, I think the time was just right.
“There was no specific catalyst, it just felt right to organise it,” she said.
While Schreiber said she was still in the early stages, she also had a vision for where she wanted to take Baby Steps.
“I’m still finding my feet, but I can see these kinds of things [additional classes, CPR courses and so on] growing.
“Like where I can get a few moms together and do a CPR talk, that kind of thing.”
Schreiber said she would also be running antenatal classes out of Breath of Life’s premises in Selborne.
At the time of writing, Baby Steps Wellness is working on an appointment basis.
