The Media, Information, and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT Seta) has partnered with the Cortex Hub in East London to provide young people with access to critical digital skills.
The partnership started on August 29, and will focus on the development of tech-driven entrepreneurship training and 4IR skills, to drive job creation and economic growth.
CEO of the MICT Seta, Matome Madibana, praised the work done by the Cortex Hub so far.
“Strategic collaborations with entities such as the Cortex Hub will solidify our commitment to providing our youth with the necessary digital skills to help them thrive and survive in our modern world.
“We want our young people to develop the capabilities to effectively drive local technological innovations and growth.
“Hence, we are committed to investing in our young people to unlock their full potential,” said Madibana.
The Cortex Hub, a vital center for tech education as well as research, aims to contribute to the development of high-value solutions in the business sector and find opportunities for innovation, aimed at social and economic development in the Eastern Cape and the continent.
Cortex Hub manager Ayabulela Dlova said it was important to invest in technology, which had the potential to improve the state of rural communities.
“Our main goal is to ensure we design and deliver initiatives that can train and support start-ups in building socially impactful solutions,” he said.
“These startups are future job creators who give us hope in the fight against poverty and unemployment. The partnership with the MICT Seta cements this as a means to foster a greater level of financial inclusion, and eradicate education skills gaps.”
