Greensleeves supports 78 children who have been abused, abandoned or orphaned and this year, the KFC Add Hope initiative will host a Golf Day on October 7 at the East London Golf Club to raise funds to assist the NGO.
Greensleeves, which is funded entirely through donations and fundraising initiatives, provides the children at the centre with all their basic needs including education, housing and meals.
The funds raised from the KFC Add Hope Golf Day will go towards covering costs such as tuition, electricity, petrol, domestic assistance and trauma counselling for the children.
Dianne Lehy, from Greensleeves, said the centre also needed financial assistance to complete its toddler unit and homework/therapy room.
Lehy said KFC Add Hope’s support over the years was much appreciated.
KFC marketing representative Nandipha Ndude, said this year’s goal was to raise R40,000 for the centre through its Golf Day.
This is the franchise’s second annual Golf Day and Greensleeves was selected as a recipient because the foundation of KFC’s CSR initiatives is to positively impact the lives of children, especially with respect to alleviating food insecurity.
“Given that consumers have added economic pressures as a result of Covid-19, we decided to look into alternative methods to raise funds for our beneficiaries and a golf day was the perfect way to go.
“As we know, we can all be sceptical at times when donating money as we wonder, ‘where is my money going?’ or ‘Is this making an impact?’” Ndude said.
As such, all proceeds would be publically handed over to a Greensleaves representative on the day, Ndude said.
The four-ball alliance style tournament will begin at 10am and will include contests for longest drive, closest to the pin and a surprise category called ‘Bucket Challenge’.
A host of other prizes will be up for grabs on the day and participants are encouraged to dress in red in support of the event.
