Book lovers are in for a special treat with the Joy of Books Festival at the East London Museum on the weekend of December 2 and 4.

The exciting festival will include fun activities for the whole family, with interactive children’s theatre and storytelling, while parents can enjoy wine and food stalls as well as meet and greets with various authors.

Joy of Books Festival founder and organiser, Jen Bryson Moorcroft, said she hoped the event would follow on from the success of the July event.

“The last event we had was such a great success.

“The feedback was very positive and it was clear people wanted more.

“So this time we have brought it back with the activities that our supporters enjoy,” said Moorcroft.

The day will also include book readings, talks, and workshops.

Attendees will also be able to participate in Christmas craft-making, raffles and prizes.

Writers from the Emonti Creative Circle will be promoting their collective book titled Haybo! A Prose and Poetry Collection, which has already sold more than 200 copies.

“The book has done very well this year, we have sold quite a few copies and will have more copies available for purchase at the festival,” said Moorcroft.

People are encouraged to donate new and used books for the stalls.

Tickets for the event, at R100 at the entrance, will include entry to the museum for the day.
