This week we chat with fitness instructor Stacey Schaefer, 28, about exciting pound exercise classes, which incorporate drumsticks.
What does pound fitness entail?
Pound Rockout Workout is the world’s first cardio jam session inspired by the energizing, infectious, sweat-dripping fun of playing the drums. Pound workout is a full-body workout that works for the muscle groups from your head to your toes. It’s a workout for everybody, young and older, men and women.
What benefits does it have?
Each class consists of squats, lunges, and abs workouts.
How often should one do a pound workout for it to be effective?
For pound to be effective, you should do a 45-minute class at least twice a week. You will definitely see improvements in your cardio and toning of the muscles.
What fitness benefits does the pound workout provide?
Weight loss: For every 60 minutes you spend doing a Pound Rockout Workout, you will burn up to 900 calories.
Strengthen and sculpt: The exercises target many muscles that most of us don’t use on a day-to-day basis.
Speed and coordination: Doing pound regularly will significantly improve your agility, coordination, endurance, and speed.
Clearer mind: Numerous studies have proven that drumming is a great way to sharpen the mind and relieve stress.
Health and wellbeing: Another of the potential benefits is that it can help lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, and decrease chronic pain.
Endorphins: The sound and rhythmic motion of Pound Rockout Workout exercises will leave participants feeling great, with more energy and less stress.
How does pound fitness differ from other exercise classes like aerobics or zumba?
Pound differs from other workouts in that during classes you are using weighted drumsticks called Ripstix. It is designed to release your inner rockstar and distract your mind from the squats and lunges and make the workout more enjoyable to do.
How did your journey in pound fitness begin?
My Pound Rockout Workout journey began in 2017 when I attended a class at a gym in America. I enjoyed it so much that I then went on to complete my instructor class in Arizona. When I returned to South Africa, I started instructing pound classes at various venues. I am fortunate enough after all these years to still have the East London community interested in the class.
Where and when do you offer classes?
I offer pound classes, among others, at my studio, Move With StayC in Stirling.
