Hudsonian signs with Blue Bulls

Border rugby continues to cement itself as an important training ground for young talent as yet another former Hudsonian and Border Craven Week player, Nokutenda Mapungwana, heads off to join the Blue Bulls this year.

Mapungwana, who was scouted during last year’s season, believes he was offered the contract due to his consistency on the field.

Described by his former teammates as reliable and adaptable, he is considered an important contribution to the provincial side.

Mapungwana is among five other former Hudson Park High players who have been offered contracts with provincial teams this year.

Mapungwana said: “My selection to the Bulls means the world to me. Being a part of the Bulls is a life-long dream come to reality. I get to follow in the footsteps of the greats that paved the path before me, and inspire other younger athletes.

“I am looking forward to donning the blue jersey, playing at Loftus, and playing alongside my new teammates as well as against some of my former teammates from Hudson who joined other franchises.

“My advice to other players at school level would be to not compare yourself with other players. We are all different and offer something different to the team. Believe in your own ability.

“Focus on how you can strengthen your own weaknesses. I worked hard week in, week out to get where I am now. Never stop trying . . . it will all be worth it in the end.
