Due to the rising costs of living, many have turned to informal trading to be able to provide for their families.
Women in the less privileged areas are turning to selling things such as snacks and clothes.
East London businesswoman Lwandisa Ntshuca-Pumani has recognised this issue and wants to provide opportunities to help them.
Ntshuca-Pumani admits that she has no formal education in business.
“Many of these women are just trying to make extra money. They do not have the necessary knowledge to keep their businesses going. My businesses skills come from my grandmother and the women who raised me, who were all self-taught.
“I think it is important to share that knowledge to help each other be successful,” said Ntshuca-Pumani.
Ntshuca-Pumani hosted a ladies business workshop on Saturday June 3, at Ziphunzana Location, where she invited local business owners to share their experience and advice.
Sizwe Mlungwana of Sizwe Mlungwana Properties was the guest speaker of the event, who shared his expertise.
Yondela Lesoana of Yolee Business Consultants Pty Ltd educated guests on the importance of registering a business, growing the business and of opening a business account.
“Sometimes when you are a street vendor or an informal trader, you don’t think about all these important details.
“Sometimes we don’t take care of ourselves as other business people do but now, after the workshop, we feel like entrepreneurs.
“We will be the ones owning the big malls in the future,” said Ntshuca-Pumani.
