Home of Modern Learning: Education without barriers

Home of Modern Learning (HML) is a newly registered private secondary school in Cambridge with a proud history of educational excellence.

Established in 2017 as a tutoring centre for home schoolers with a single classroom, the school’s success has resulted in continued growth.

The school now accommodates 120 pupils from grade 7 upwards.

HML prides itself on providing a learning environment that is barrier free and welcomes academically capable pupils with learning differences.

Learning plans are individually customised to meet the needs of each pupil.

Kindness and respect for diversity in all its forms are the values the school expects from and fosters in pupils.

Currently, HML accommodates pupils following the CAPS curriculum in grade 7 to 9 and thereafter prepares students for the GED examinations.

The GED is an American-based alternative schooling option that requires passing four external examinations in reasoning through language arts, mathematics, social studies and science. The GED is an international high school equivalency credential recognised by SAQA as a NQF level 4 qualification with the NCS being the closest comparable local qualification.

HML is recognised as an authorised education partner with GED Testing Services.

In 2024, HML will be making use of the US school curriculum for all pupils and offer a second traditional high school graduation pathway, in addition to the GED.

Through a partnership with Christian-based Switched on Education, pupils will have the opportunity to graduate with a Cognia-accredited US high school diploma.

This prestigious international school-leaving credential is recognised by SA universities for degree purposes.

The use of the US curriculum with a blended learning model provides pupils with the flexibility to work at an individualised and flexible academic pace.

This is particularly well suited to pupils with specific learning disorders, as well as those who are academically gifted or those who regularly compete in sport.
