Q: What services or products do you offer?
A: Tied Up is a small business selling handmade hair accessories ranging from scrunchies to mini scrunchies, bow scrunchies, long tail scrunchies, alice bands, claw clips and everything in between.
Q: When did your business start?
A: It was established in June 2019.
Q: How did the idea of making scrunchies come about?
A: It started with the idea of making ourselves unique scrunchies, but soon our friends started asking where we got our scrunchies from. We decided to make a small business out of our new hobby. We did everything ourselves, from our logo to hand delivering orders. We have incorporated hair accessories & products such as alice bands, long tail scrunchies, pearl clips, claw clips and scrunchie holders. Four years later, we have more than 15,000 scrunchies and counting.
Q: How many people do you work with?
A: It’s just me & my loving mother.
Q: What satisfaction do you get out of doing the work that you do?
A: One of my favourite parts is being able to meet new customers or other small business owners.
Q: What makes your business stand out?
A: Our items are handmade using locally sourced materials. From picking out the fabric to sewing the items and hand delivering orders, it is all us.
Q: Who is your target market?
A: Our target market is female. Although, we’ve had sales to long haired males and we totally back that.
Q: What are your goals?
A: Just over a year ago, we launched the first online hair accessory store in East London. While we are still boasting about that, we are working towards introducing new product lines and bringing more variety to our customers.
Q: What advice do you have for anyone interested in starting their own business?
A: If you’re planning to start your own business, take the risk and be unique.
