The East Coast Quilters Guild (ECQG) will be hosting a Quilt show at the Courtney Latimer Hall at East London Museum from Friday, November 10 to Saturday, November 18.
The traveling exhibition will show beautiful pieces made by talented members of the organisation and will be open for public viewing for R5.
This is an annual showcase that aims to show local designs and to promote quilting in East London. This year’s challenge theme is, ‘a Christmas celebration’.
The ECQG is a part of the SA Quilters Guild, and as a result, the 12th SA Quilters Guild Travelling Exhibition of Quilts will also be on display this year.
The organisation was established in 1989.
“Since its conception, the SA Quilters Guild’s Traveling Exhibition has aimed to raise awareness for the art of quilt-making by showcasing the work of its members.
“The exhibition travels the country for up to two years to expose quilting to other artists and the public. This year’s show promises to be spectacular,” East Coast Quilters Guild president Christine Gordon said.
Guild member Penny Burger said being part of the guild gave one a chance to create beautiful designs with like-minded people.
“The guild creates a platform where people who love to create are able to come together and exchange their ideas in a warm, encouraging environment,” Burger said.
At the age of 81, Jenny Flemmer is the oldest member of the guild and has been quilting since her late 20s.
“It has been a wonderful journey to be a member, I have been the chairlady quite a while back, before Covid-19,” she said.
A special quilt is being raffled at the exhibition for R10 a ticket.
The East Coast Quilters Show will be open to the public from Friday, November 10 to Saturday, November 12, daily from 9.30am to 4pm. Saturday’s show on November 18, will be from 9:30am to 12:30pm.
