The Run for Hope initiative will celebrate its fifth year of the 24-hour run to raise funds and awareness for orphans at Guardians of Hope, a local safe haven for abandoned babies.

Bonnie Currin, a board member of Guardians of Hope said: “In our local city, we at Guardians of Hope receive babies who have been dumped, burnt, raped, with many more horrific stories.

“But amid many hardships, we must recognise the resilience and strength that resides within each orphaned child.

“They possess a remarkable capacity to overcome adversity, to find hope in the darkest of circumstances.

“It is our duty as a society to extend a helping hand and provide them with the tools they need to thrive,” said Currin.

Run for Hope will take place at The Cove in Nahoon on Saturday, December 2.

The 24-hour run, with a commitment to raise a minimum of R1,500, is a grueling challenge. There will also be an eight-hour run, with a commitment to raise at least R1,000.

The run will also be open to the public for a R100 donation fee, to run a 5km loop, or more.

Businesses are encouraged to enter a team and benefit from the branding opportunities.

Guardians of Hope founder Elaine Oakes, who will also be taking part in the 24-hour run, said the haven was in desperate need of funds for its day-to-day running costs.

“We are low on formula, nappies and medication. We need to stock up on these.

“We do get donations of formula and nappies but we need to be able to take care of other expenses like electricity,” said Oakes.

“I have seen how physically difficult a challenge can be, it is so inspiring to us to keep going and reminds us why we do what we do.”

Current Consulting Marketing Agency is the main sponsor, and relies on service providers to come on board to make the event a success.

Dynamic Sounds will be playing music for the 24 hours to entertain the participants, Link FM will interview the participants, creating awareness for the cause, and Aldersons Ambulance will be on site.
