Stirling High School’s first cricket team showcased their talent and determination at the Union High School cricket tournament held in Graaff-Reinet this past weekend.
Competing against tough opposition in four matches, the team secured two victories and narrowly missed out on a third, ending the tournament with a respectable set of results.
The tournament opened with a strong performance against Nico Malan High School, where Stirling claimed victory by 27 runs.
Ryan Markland and Reece Buchler led the charge with the bat, scoring 33 and 26 runs respectively, to help Stirling post 139/5. Nico Malan fell short, finishing their innings at 112/5.
In their second match, Stirling faced a nail-biting encounter against Westering High School but fell short by just five runs.
Chasing Westering’s 79 all out, Stirling put up a valiant effort but were unable to reach the winning target.
The team’s third game saw them up against Daniel Pienaar Technical High School. Despite a spirited effort, Stirling was defeated by 49 runs. Daniel Pienaar scored 185 all out, with Stirling managing 136 in reply.
Stirling ended the tournament on a high note with a commanding 48-run victory over Victoria Park.
Samuel Kirton stole the spotlight, smashing an impressive 50 runs off just 27 balls, helping Stirling reach 150/7. Stirling’s performance highlighted their grit.
