A spiritual Hudson Park High grade 9 pupil Esona Majozini has emerged as one of the school’s most exceptional academic achievers this year, earning recognition across several subjects and impressing teachers with her dedication, maturity and character.
Majozini, from Winterstrand, excelled in digital technology, social sciences, and natural sciences and showed a remarkable improvement in mathematics.
She said: “I felt excited, I felt thrilled. I immediately gave thanks to the Lord for such an amazing blessing. I instantly gained motivation to work even harder and felt enthusiastic about what this opportunity will do for my future.”
Her motivation is deeply rooted in her faith and the support she receives from her family.
“My belief in Christ motivates me to work with integrity and compassion. My late father [Anda Majozini] also played a significant role in my motivation to succeed beyond all limits. I am incredibly fortunate to have a supportive mother whose constant encouragement has been the main reason behind my academic success,” she said.
Balancing the demands of sport and schoolwork has been one of her biggest trials this year but one she navigated with discipline and emotional strength.
“I pushed past this challenge by giving myself grace and resting when I needed to, trusting that my faith would grant me the strength to chase my dreams,” she said.
Her mother, Lindelwa Majozini, said her daughter’s accomplishments carry deep emotional significance following the passing of Anda in February 2024.
“I felt so incredibly proud,” she said.
“She became a girl on a mission to achieve her goals as a gift to me and her dad. Her achievements are a reminder of her dedication and a true reflection of where she sees herself in the near future.”
Lindelwa believes that family support has given her only daughter the confidence and stability she needs to thrive.
“It has given her peace of mind and a stable environment to achieve her goals. She has shown leadership, accountability, hard work and determination from a young age.”
Majozini’s teacher, Kyle Knickelbein, sang the praises for the pupil who serves as the school’s head of debating and public speaking. He said she embodied the best qualities of a committed and thoughtful student.
“Esona is punctual, honest, and hardworking. She consistently engages meaningfully in lessons and contributes thoughtfully to discussions.
“She shows genuine respect for others, embraces a multicultural mindset and always completes tasks on time.”
Knickelbein said what stands out most is her hunger for knowledge. “She exemplifies the attitude teachers hope to see in their pupils. Her always-ready-to-learn’ approach sets her apart,” he said.
He has also witnessed significant emotional growth, which Knickelbein attributed to her personal values and the support she received at home.
“Her family has clearly instilled integrity, honesty and kindness in her. She is humble, approachable, and leaves a positive impact on her peers.”
Looking ahead, Knickelbein believes her future is bright.
“She possesses strong leadership potential and maintains positive relationships with peers and educators. Her role as class captain since grade 8 is just the beginning.
“In the first week I taught her, she lent stationery to a fellow pupil who needed it. That humility and generosity have remained consistent ever since.”
As she looks to next year, Majozini aims to refine her time management, balance school and sport, and continued leveling up.
“I want to become the ultimate version of myself and make my past self my only competition,” she said.
To pupils hoping to improve academically, her advice is grounded in faith, discipline, and self-kindness.
“Make Christ your top priority if you’re a believer. Do your homework right away, pay attention in class, and get feedback from teachers. Don’t be discouraged by bad grades, use them to improve. Rest when you need to. Be kind to yourself.”
Hudson Park High celebrates academic excellence, and this year, Majozini stands as a shining example of resilience, leadership, and promise.
