UPDATED: EL, King come together to help Knysna fire victims

EAST Londoners are asked to open their hearts to help the victims of the devastating wildfires in Knysna and the Garden Route.

Hudson Park Primary School and Honda and Kia Motors were the first of many who reached out, appealing to the East London public to donate blankets, non perishable foods, clothes, baby formula, school stationery and any other items for those affected by the Knysna fire.

The fires, which broke out yesterday, have raged through the garden route causing havoc.

Strong winds, due to the storm passing over the Western Cape have fanned the flames as firefighters are still battling to control the fire. By 2am this morning around 10000 people were evacuated from their homes.

“We are a caring school and when there is a need in the community we like to get involved and by so doing make a positive difference in the lives of those who are less fortunate. We have so much to be grateful for so it is our right and our responsibility to share with others who have less than us,” said Hudson Park Primary School pastoral head and organiser, Morgan Lands.
The donation drive will take place on Monday and Tuesday next week. All are invited to become involved and donate any items they are willing to spare.
All donations must be sent to the Drama Room at Hudson Park High School, where the items will be sorted and sent to Knysna.
“On Tuesday afternoon we will decide how we will transport the goods, this depends mainly on the volume of stuff collected. We have plans in place for delivery to take place either late Tuesday or early Wednesday,” said Lands.

Honda and Kia Motors have also asked for the donation of items of relief such as clothing, blankets, towels, toiletries and non-perishable foods. The donations can be dropped off at Honda and Kia Motors, Old Transkei road.

These items will be taken to Knysna in a truck courtesy of TT Trucking.

Drop offs can be made all day Monday to Friday from 8am to 5pm.

Your generosity and kind-heartedness will be highly valued!
