Seven Buffalo Flats schools take part
SEVEN primary schools took part in the Buffalo Flats cluster spelling bee competition last week.
AW Barnes, Aspiranza, Buffalo Flats, Isaiah 58, New Generation, Parkside and Pefferville primary schools went head-to-head last week at Parkside Primary.
The annual spelling bee competition is aimed at improving literacy levels and instilling the discipline of reading in children from as early as primary school level.
Buffalo Flats cluster spelling bee convenor Lizelle Abrahams said this competition was held in preparation for the district competition which will take place tomorrow.
“In the next competition we will be competing against other clusters in the district,” she said.
The competition went up to five rounds of intense spelling and was considered the toughest one so far. The competition started off with 30 pupils from seven schools and the last round closed off with Imange Dyalom from Parkside Primary in third place, Iva Kangapi from AW Barnes in second place, and Bukhobenkosi Gqomose from AW Barnes in first.
