Netflix’s latest offering, With Love, Meghan, sees the Duchess of Sussex step into the world of lifestyle television. The series aims to showcase some of Meghan’s favourites in terms of lifestyle, food, home decor and DIY crafts.
After the success of Harry & Meghan (2022), the couple’s documentary series, audiences were eager to see what Meghan’s solo project would be like.
The opening episode shows Meghan prepare for a home visit from her longtime friend and makeup artist, Daniel Martin.
The pair embark on a day filled with wholesome activities, from candle-making to preparing a simple spaghetti dish.
The show takes a relaxed and intimate approach, allowing Meghan to share anecdotes about her life as she carries out the different tasks.
She seems like a soft and gentle person, and she’s very well spoken and articulates herself clearly. The show is a visual treat. The setting is a beautiful house, with a stunning garden and beautiful design. Meghan states upfront that it isn’t her actual home and everything she prepares will be transported at a later stage.
The production quality indicates a high budget and a talented team that understands how to create a warm, comfortable and beautiful space for television. The shots are very raw, with the cameras sometimes showing up in frame, but the focus remains on Meghan throughout.
What makes the episode an easy and comfortable watch, is the authenticity of Meghan and Daniel’s friendship. Their easy banter and shared history bring a sense of warmth, making the show feel intimate rather than a scripted production.
Some of the ingredients and items she uses for her food and crafts, are not necessarily things that the average person would have in their cupboards, which could make her slightly unrelatable. This could also be explained by the fact that Meghan isn’t providing instructions to follow, merely showing how she does things.
The show has eight episodes in total that include visits from Meghan’s close and industry friends including Mindy Kaling, Abigail Spencer, and Roy Choi.
Prince Harry and even Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, also make brief appearances.
The inaugural episode of With Love, Meghan offers a pleasant viewing experience, especially for those interested in lifestyle and domesticity.
With Love, Meghan is available for streaming on Netflix.
