East London police find python in boot of vehicle

Nine people were killed over the weekend.

The police in East London, reacting on information of an endangered species of snake that was being transported, stopped a black Golf GTI in Porter Street in the CBD yesterday.
Police said in a statement that an off-duty K9 Unit member, driving in Deveraux Avenue, had spotted the vehicle and followed them after contacting members who were on duty.
The police said in a statement that two men, aged 30 and 35, were subsequently arrested. A python found in a bag in the boot of the vehicle was seized.
Environmental affairs have been contacted with the snake handed over to Python Park outside the city for safekeeping.
