Music brings peace and love in chaotic world

Music brings peace and love in chaotic world

With the world in such turmoil, lives in danger and so many people apprehensive about the future, there is always some solace to be found in music.

How fitting that Viva Musica Ensemble will be hosting a concert titled Peace and Love at First City Baptist Church on Saturday.

The programme includes the beautiful composition Be Still My Soul from Finlandia by Jean Sibelius and Plea for Africa by John Knox-Bokwe, as well as other well known melodies.

It is not often that one gets to hear live music on the pipe organ, and so both Grassey Buitendag and Craig Tyzack will be taking advantage of the opportunity to play this magnificent instrument.

Buitendag will play the well known The Heavens Are Telling by Beethoven and Tyzack will entertain with a James Bond medley that he arranged. The singers from U3A will be taking part in the concert and treat the audience to Dear Lord and Father of Mankind as well as Burt Bacharach’s What the World Needs Now is Love.

The Cambridge High School chamber choir Canto Armonico, under the baton of Lidia Tzoneva from Cambridge High School, will also be participating. They were very well received when they were the guest artists at a Viva Musica concert two years ago.

Canto Armonico has performed with great distinction both locally and nationally. In 2025 the choir was crowned SA National Talent Africa Overall Grand Supreme senior group winners. Tzoneva is well known in local music circles, has worked extensively overseas and was recently invited to serve as a choral adjudicator at the NIAA Eisteddfod in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Canto Armonico’s programme includes In Virtute by Greg Gilpin and Somewhere Out There by J Horner.

The best news of all is that there is no entry fee but there will be a collection in aid of Lilly’s Forgotten Felines & Friends. Limited parking will be available in the church grounds and car guards will be in attendance in Belgravia Crescent, Oxford Street and Lambart Road.

Just a reminder to save the details: First City Baptist Church, at 3pm on Saturday. A very warm welcome awaits you!
