Perfect conditions for kart heroics

The Border Kart Club Championship recently roared into its third round at the historic East London Grand Prix Kart Circuit, delivering a day of high-speed action under clear skies, a welcome change after two rain-affected rounds earlier this season.

Drivers, teams and families arrived to perfect racing conditions, with engines firing up early as competitors prepared for a full day of racing.

Following official practice and qualifying sessions, grids were set for the heats, where drivers battled it out across three races per class to determine overall standings.

With dry conditions allowing for faster racing and cleaner lines, competitors seized the opportunity to push their limits, producing an exciting and competitive day across all categories.

In the mini four stroke class, Jake Houzet proved unstoppable, winning all three heats in dominant fashion.

Keegan de Coning delivered his strongest performance to date to secure second overall, while Riley Littleford rounded out the podium in third.

The four stroke juniors category saw Callum de Coning in commanding form, setting the pace from the outset and sweeping all three heats. Behind him, Lincoln Randall claimed second place, with Demi Potgieter securing third after a closely contested battle.

Adrian de Coning continued the family’s impressive run in the four stroke seniors division, pulling away from the field to win all three heats. Dean Potgieter followed in second place, while Damian Stevens celebrated a milestone moment, securing his first podium finish at the club with third place.

In the four stroke masters class, Leeroy Randall made a triumphant return to the track, showcasing his experience and skill to take overall victory.

Kevin Fernandez finished second, while Alton Beckmann impressed in his new class with a credible third-place finish.

The ever-entertaining Clubmans 125 category once again lived up to expectations.

In the senior max division, Myles Krause delivered a commanding performance to secure first place, with Lincoln Randall finishing second. Krause’s victory sees him take the lead in the championship heading into the next round.

In the Clubmans 125cc masters class, Andrew van der Westhuizen marked his return to the circuit in style, claiming top honours after stepping away from karting to pursue other racing disciplines.

Special awards recognised individual excellence on the day, with Damian Stevens named driver of the day following his breakthrough podium finish. Riley Littleford received the sportsperson of the day award, while Fhila Nombembe was honoured as marshal of the day for dedication and commitment.

Organisers extended their gratitude to all drivers, spectators, families, marshals and officials for contributing to a successful event, as well as event sponsor Houzet Racing for their valued support.

The championship continues on 16 May, when competitors return to the Border Karting track for round four.
