RIBBONS OF RESPECT: The girls at Clarendon Primary School acknowledged the women in their lives who live out the school's core values. The pupils wrote the names of these special women onto coloured ribbons and tied them to the school's fence during August. Grade 5 pupils, from left, are Luca-Lee Boucher, Kirstyn Fritz, Emily Nass and Ambesa Ngobo.

MERRY MILESTONE: Parkland Special School celebrated its 10th birthday recently. The school opened its doors in 2006 when the amalgamation took place between Parkside and McClelland. The school's motto 'Together We Can' reminds teachers and staff that anything is possible if they work together. A joyous 'Happy Birthday' was sung by the school and pupils blew out candles and were treated to cupcakes and cooldrink to celebrate the special occasion.

LETTER OF THE LAW: The Beaconhurst Moot Court pupils were the overall winners in the Eastern Cape after the Moot Court Provincial Round at Walter Sisulu University in Mthatha and represented the Eastern Cape on a national level in Pretoria recently. SUPER SWAP: Earlier this year, 14 pupils from Hudson Park High School exchanged with 14 Bhongolethu Secondary School pupils to experience a day at each school respectively. They pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience and could not stop talking about what they had done and the friends they had made. 'It was a privilege to be welcomed so warmly by Bhongolethu and we look forward to many more enjoyable days spent together,” Hudson Park said.

CULTURAL FEST: Heritage Day celebrations began at College Street Primary School with a clash between Grade 4, 5, 6 and 7 classes, showcasing different traditional clothing, dance and music before ending off with games and a food fair. SAFETY AWARENESS: Abbotsford Sunshine Kids Academy had a visit from the Beacon Bay Police recently. They gave them a lesson in safety and how to the police help to keep little children safe. Thanks to the two very professional women, Constable Pongwana and Yola-Nanie Soga, who also showed the kiddies their police equipment and allowed them into their police vehicle. Thank you for helping us to change our world to become a safer and better place.

LOVE GIFTS: George Randell Foundation Phase held a vibrant assembly for their parents. This was a showpiece of creative spirit and engery from the pupils and teachers. Grade 2 pupils welcoming the parents with love gifts are, from left, Siphosihle Nanze, Sibablwe Mlotana, Hlela Noqako and Achuma Vapi.

YOUNG ORATORS: Gonubie Primary hosted an oratory competition where, Asange Kene, left, came third while Mahle Qina, middle, came first and Hannah Stubbs came second in the unprepared section. Mahle also won the prepared section, when he spoke convincingly on 'Organ Donation' and went on to represent Gonubie at the inter-schools event a few days later.

ACTORS OF NOTE: At the recent Buffalo City ELFEST Drama Eisteddfod, this group of Stirling Primary Drama Studio pupils received gold + and gold ++ awards. What an excellent dramatic achievement.

RESPONSIBLE KIDS: Lilyfontein pupils during a beach clean-up between Glen Garriff and Queensberry Bay. They love to reuse packets to help save the planet. Pupils Seth McArthur, in front, Malunga Ngumbela and Mzi Faku are part of the cleanup.

PRESERVING CULTURE: Hudson Park High School celebrated Heritage Day with the unveiling of the school's new family tree, an assembly and a picnic with loads of entertainment. The pupils were encouraged to dress in clothes that embraced their own or somebody else's culture and to bring food for the picnic to share with friends. They had the honour of having Ziphozihle Ntlanganiso, who had been crowned Ms Heritage Global Queen, attend. Her message of unity resonated and had great relevance with the launch of the school's new pledge relating to a unified family of staff, pupils and parents. Seen at the event are some of the pupils all dressed up with their teacher Jackie Acton.

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE: George Randell Primary Grade 7 pupils visited Oudtshoorn and Knysna for their annual Outdoor Tour this year. It was a jam-packed educational and fun filled five days and a great experience for all. One of the highlights was their visit to the Cango Caves, squeezing through the tiny tunnels, as well as learning about the history of the caves. CODING AFRICA: Hudson Park Primary was proud to launch Africa Code Week in the province recently. Africa Code Week is an annual international event that aims to introduce coding by offering free training sessions for all ages and abilities throughout Africa, through hands-on, playful learning. It is the largest digital literacy initiative ever organised on the African continent to date. Hudson Park is first in the province to launch the initiative offering after-school free workshops to pupils and parents, as well as Greensleeves Place of Safety. It plans to open training sessions for the general public next year.

ENVIRONMENTALLY CONSCIOUS: As part of National Marine Week, which is celebrated annually during the second week of October, a group of Grade 7s from Gonubie Primary collected no less than 10 large black bags of rubbish in the Black Rock area of the Gonubie coastline. Truly a sad commentary on our disposable society.

HAPPY READERS: Stirling Primary celebrated Readathon week recently to encourage a love of reading. This saw grade 7 pupils reading to the Grade 2s and the Grade 3 pupils had to select an appropriate book to read to the Grade Rs. And on October 14, all the Foundation Phase pupils dressed up as characters from a book and gave a book report. Dressed for the occasion are pupils, from left, Alice Lombard, Riley Armstrong, Aaron Prakash and Lomelelo Fotoyi.

RIDING HIGH: Lilyfontein's school mascot, the Lynx, leads the Lilyfontein Equestrian team out to compete in the Inter-Schools Equestrian Competition held on Gonubie Showgrounds on October 15. The Lilyfontein Primary School took first place and the high school teams placed fourth and fifth.
