WHIZZ KIDS: Four Beaconhurst High pupils enjoyed every minute of proudly representing their school in the annual AKTV Burger Afrikaans Knowledge test. They are, from left, Okuhle Klass, Catelyn Cumberledge, Gareth Hewitt and Rochelle Bessinger STAR READERS: George Randell Primary pupils, Sibabalwe Xolisa (Grade 1) and Yerusha Moodley (Grade 2), participated in the Department of Education District Reading Competition. Both pupils placed second in their respective grade categories. DRAWING INSPIRATION: Hudson Park High School has had a new mural of a tree painted in one of the quads. The significance of the tree is that it will have all of the pupils and staff's fingerprints placed on it. The leaves and the roots indicate the core values that are presented in the pledge, regarding the school being a united, diverse, respectful, generational, nurturing, loyal and holistic family. MONKEYING AROUND: Clarendon Prep Grade Rs took part in a fun concert called 'The Zoo'. Acting out the song 'Underneath the Monkey Tree' are, from left, Eve-Astara Schultz, Amiyah-Mae Nina and Libhaso Mgqaliso. PRIZE WINNER: Port Rex Technical High School's Keegan Kroutz was awarded the Rotary Award and the Rotary Floating Trophy for 2016 at the school's prizegiving recently. SPEAK UP: George Randell Primary School pupils, from left, Mandy Reynolds (Grade 7) and Yonwaba Nongogo (Grade 6) competed in the SACEE (South African Council for English Education) Public Speaking Competition, with Reynolds being awarded second place in the Unprepared Section. UNITY OF PURPOSE: Hudson Park High Grade 11s clambered onto buses and headed to Hobbiton on Hogsback for a camp earlier this year. They enjoyed a multitude of activities including camp Olympics, leadership workshops, hiking, abseiling, team and individual challenges. New friendships were forged through difficulty and fun GIFT OF SIGHT: Hemingways Spec-Savers has been assisting six to 12-year-old pupils at Advance for Life Christian Academy with free eye tests and spectacles. Grade 4 pupil Bonga Fikayo receives spectacles from optometrist Dr Mark de Sousa. WORDY ACHIEVEMENT: Kristi Ann Burmeister from Hudson Park Primary School came second in the SACEE National Language Challenge HAVING A BLAST: Gugu Nyembe performs at Cambridge High School annual music evening held at the end of the third term. WORDLY ACCLAIM: Congratulations to Clarendon Prep School pupils Sisipho Silwana (Grade 2) and Ogi Mbude (Grade 3) who had their artwork selected for the 47th World Children's Art Exhibition in Taiwan. Their art was selected as part of 50 entries from South Africa. LIFE'S A STAGE: The pupils pictured won trophies at the Elfest Buffalo City Drama Eisteddfod. Well done to Matthew Miah, Kieran Odhav, Hein Dafel, Kurt Portgieter, Carmen de Beer, Carla Naude, Zahra Marais, Azukwa Nxele, Noah Ciganek, Daniel Boucher and Matthew Malan. STAR ACHIEVER: Port Rex Technical High School dux pupil, Nathan Weiss, was awarded the Wallace Barnes Bursary Award and the floating trophy for academic excellence at the school's prizegiving recently TOP HONOURS: The highest academic award at Clarendon high School went to Moya Eybers this year. She was also awarded the environmental prize for commitment and dedication to the environment. SHOWING SUPPORT: The Beaconhurst High School Interact group leave the school looking pretty in pink as part of their breast cancer awareness drive last month ART FOR ALL: Grant, Matthew and Olivia Berndt have a look at some of the art on display at Stirling Primary recently. Parents and pupils enjoyed the school's art exhibition which features more than 1000 artworks. Due to the limited number of entries in local and national exhibitions and eisteddfods, this exhibition gives more pupils the opportunity of seeing their work on display. Pieces could also be purchased and the pupils and art department share the proceeds which adds another fun element for pupils. BRAVE ADVENTURES: A group of pupils from Gonubie Primary School's hiking club last month took on the Gwili Hike, which starts and ends at the Maden Dam om the foothills of the Amathola Mountains.
