Greenfields MICA is on a mission to show support and much-needed charity to an organisation that needs it, Helping Those In Need.

The hardware store will host a charity golf day at Olivewood Golf Estate on Friday, October 6.

The East London-based non-profit organization focuses on providing food, shelter, and all-around support to more than 30 children from their home.

Organisation co-founders, Matthew Peake and his wife Marion, have dedicated the last seven years of their lives, and their pockets to helping these children, as well as more than 3,000 people in communities around East London through their frequent hosting of soup kitchens.

“Firstly, this is amazing, it has been almost four years of wanting to do a golf day.

“We are in desperate need of support. It is extremely costly to run a home with so many children and we are always asking for support, from food to donations, and financial help,” Peake said.

Peake’s wife has been busy raising awareness about the organisation’s plight by entering various beauty pageants. The children in the couple’s care have been exposed to harsh situations such as negligence, abuse, abandonment, domestic violence and loss of family members.

“My wife is a former Mrs SA semi-finalist and a finalist of the Mrs Supreme Queen Global Earth Africa 2022. We want to create awareness of our NPO but we also want to empower young girls and women and let them know that nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it.

Greenfields MICA manager Gavin Oehley said the aim of the event was to raise awareness and assistance by raising funds for Helping Those in Need, as well as assisting them in growing their donor base.

“There will be no financial gain for MICA. Any proceeds will go directly to Helping Those In Need for the daily running and upkeep.

“The strong desire to assist and improve the conditions of the children is what prompted this venture. The public can get involved by following Helping Those In Need on social media and by donating food, clothing, school clothes, sanitary towels and toiletries,” Oehley said.

The golf day will take place on Friday October 6 at Olivewood Golf Estate. Bookings can be made for a team of four, green fees, two carts, and a light lunch for R1,000 per group.
