Buffalo City metro is celebrating two rising stars in women’s cricket, former Cambridge High School pupil Akhile Mdlalane and Hudson Park High School’s Sinesipho Dondi, who are making waves at provincial and national levels.
Akhile Mdlalane: A trailblazing leader
Eighteen-year-old Akhile Esethu Mdlalane has been named captain of the Border U19 women’s cricket team, a significant milestone in her impressive sporting journey.
Akhile, who excels in both hockey and cricket, has represented SA internationally, including at the Mirnawana tournament in Malaysia.
Her dedication and talent were recently recognised when she received her Border blazer from Proteas women’s cricketer Sinalo Jafta. Akhile is a shining example of perseverance and a proud ambassador for the Eastern Cape.
Sinesipho Dondi: A rising talent
At just 16, grade 10 pupil Sinesipho Dondi has been selected for the Iinyathi Eastern Cape senior women’s cricket team.
Her exceptional work ethic and determination have impressed her coaches, including Hudson Park’s director of cricket, Viwe Tongo. Despite her young age, Sinesipho trains alongside the boys’ teams to further hone her skills.
