In a heartwarming tale of community spirit and furry friends, local animal welfare heroes at Pet Pals are purring and wagging their tails after receiving a generous R10,000 donation from Vox Telecom.
The cash windfall, delivered on February 4, comes straight from the coffers of a recent golf auction, proving that birdies and bogeys can save lives, one swing at a time.
Nestled in the rolling hills of Wilsonia (Farm 648, Eureka), Pet Pals has been East London’s beacon of hope for abandoned, ill-treated cats and dogs since founder Sue Kriel launched her no-kill mission back in 2011.
Today, the sanctuary buzzes with around 200 dogs and 80-100 cats, all getting top-notch food, shelter, vet care, and a shot at their forever homes. No government handouts here, it’s all powered by donations like this one, which will plug straight into skyrocketing feeding bills and kennel TLC.
“This generous donation allows us to continue our mission of love and care,” Kriel said, with her voice brimming with emotion.
“It goes straight to the heart of what we do, helping us provide nutritious food for our dogs and cats while supporting the ongoing upkeep of the safe and beautiful kennels they call home.
“We are incredibly grateful to Vox for their kindness and support,” Kriel said.
Vox East London spokesperson Karen Ungerer echoed the feel-good vibes, underscoring her company’s pledge to uplift the community.
“The funds raised through our golf auction allowed us to support Pet Pals and the important work they do,” she said.
“We are proud to contribute towards giving vulnerable animals a safe and caring environment.”
Pet Pals’ story isn’t just about one donation. It is a reminder of the power of local giving. Past financial hiccups, like halting intakes in 2023 due to cash crunches, make moments like this golden.
Whether you’re a golfer, a cat lover, or just someone who believes every pet deserves a second chance, Pet Pals welcomes your support.
