Hard work pays off as Kuswag stars storm Border rugby stage

Excitement and pride are running high at Kuswag Primary after four young rugby players earned selection to represent the Border U12 and U13 teams, a remarkable achievement that has the entire school community celebrating.

Alunamnda Makinana in the U12 side, alongside Simanye Mbali, Sokhana Faku, and Zingce Ngqinambi who are all in the U13 team, have proven that hard work and determination pay off. Their selection places them among the top young rugby talents in the Border region.

“We are very proud of our boys and their achievements,” said the school’s rugby coach, Steven Kriel.

“It’s incredibly rewarding to see our learners competing against the best players in the region, and rising to the top. They truly deserve their place in the Border squad.”

What sets these young players apart is not just their skill, but their mindset.

The coach highlighted their determination and eagerness to grow.

“They always give their best on the field. They are eager to play and, more importantly, willing to learn, and that makes all the difference,” he said.

Preparation has been key to their success.

Through consistent league matches and committed attendance at training sessions, the boys have built both confidence and resilience,  essential qualities for competing at provincial level.

As they prepare to step onto a bigger stage, the message to them is simple yet powerful: “Take every chance you have and grab it with both hands. Enjoy every second.”

Beyond individual success, this milestone signals something greater for the school.

The recognition from Border selectors has put the school firmly on the rugby map.

“It shows that coaches and management are aware of Kuswag Primary and the potential we have here,” Kriel said.

With talent, passion, and opportunity on their side, these four young players are not just representing their province, they are inspiring a new generation of rugby stars at Kuswag Primary.
