As winter continues to grip KuGompo City, one local organisation is inviting residents to enjoy an evening of fine wine while helping keep vulnerable community members warm.
East London Ladies Circle 23 (ELLC23) will host its Winter Drive Wine Tasting at Cork & Barrel in Nahoon on Saturday, combining fundraising with a blanket and jacket collection for those in need.
Organisers say the event aims to bring together wine lovers, local businesses and community members while raising awareness about the organisation’s ongoing outreach initiatives.
ELLC23 member Kay-Lee Chetty told the Go! the idea was to create an event that was both enjoyable and meaningful.
“We wanted to do something a little different. Hosting the wine tasting alongside our winter collection gives us the perfect opportunity to bring people together in a warm, relaxed setting while introducing them to East London Ladies Circle 23 and the work we do,” Chetty said.
“It isn’t just about collecting blankets and jackets. It’s about creating awareness, building connections and showing that giving back to the community is something everyone can be part of.”
Chetty said every blanket and warm jacket donated would remain within the local community through partnerships with organisations already supporting vulnerable families and individuals.
“We’ll be partnering with local organisations to make sure the donations reach those who need them most.
“It’s a simple way for all of us to help keep someone warm this winter.”
She said Cork & Barrel was once again the ideal venue after successfully hosting the organisation’s first wine tasting last year.
“The team exceeded all our expectations. They offer a fantastic atmosphere, great service and have always been incredibly supportive of community events.”
Organisers have prepared six carefully selected wines for tasting, while food will be available to purchase throughout the event.
Beyond the tasting, Chetty hopes the event will inspire greater community involvement.
“When everyone chips in, even in a small way, it adds up and makes a real difference.
“Something as simple as donating a blanket or jacket can help keep someone warm this winter.”
She also thanked local businesses for their continued support through venue sponsorships, prize donations, catering and promoting the organisation’s initiatives.
ELLC23 is also running a fundraiser in support of the SPCA and has several other community projects planned in the coming months.
Residents are encouraged to attend the event, bring a blanket or warm jacket if possible, and enjoy an evening that promises good company, excellent wines and the opportunity to make a lasting difference in someone’s life this winter.
