AN 80-year-old author of a novel set on the Wild Coast, Dave Baker, will be in East London on Wednesday June 8 to launch the sale of his debut novel If I Retreat Shoot Me a story set during the Second World War.
Sibling rivalry between farmer’s sons Pierre and Jan is the theme, with one son supporting Jan Smuts’s decision to join England in the fight against Germany, while the other brother joins a banned organisation in opposition.
The title stems from the fact that, on oath, each member will want a fellow member to shoot him if he ever retreats or shirks his duties.
It’s a hard-hitting story, humorous in parts, with plenty of action along the Wild Coast, East London and Port Alfred.
East Londoners are invited to join the launch at the Latimer Hall at the Museum at 5.30pm Wednesday to meet Baker, hear him talk about his first book – there are more in the pipeline – and to obtain a signed copy of his debut novel.
