Lions Club blood donors save lives

“Even our president, Ulrich Hagens, led by example as he donated after years of absence. This has really encouraged me to keep on with this drive”

YOU CAN be a hero and save a life – and that was exactly what the King William’s Town Lions Club did as they hosted a blood donor drive with officials of South African National Blood Services (SANBS) at their headquarters, the Den, in King William’s Town on Monday.

An elated project leader, Nici Naude, said the blood drive had been a major success, with its main aim to assist the SANBS as blood shortages loom over the festive period.

“This was my first attempt as project leader handling the blood drive and SANBS officials, with their professionalism and efficiency, made it easy to host the event,” Naude said.

“They were punctual and worked non-stop for more than five hours and credit needs to be given to my fellow Lions members, the Lions ladies and the community that supported us and for making the initiative special.”

He said most of his fellow-members donated as usual and Desmond Coetzee – a first-timer as a Lions member – also arrived to donate.

“Even our president, Ulrich Hagens, led by example as he donated after years of absence. This has really encouraged me to keep on participating in this drive.”

Naude said a total of 25 donors had managed to add to the SANBS’s tally of donations.
