SPELLING SUCCESS

Last week Thursday, the Zukisa Cluster met at Mdantsane Primary School to compete in a spelling bee. The cluster comprises of 17 primary schools, of which all competed entering three representatives from their Grade 3 classes. The spelling bee programme is set by the department of education and participants were able to spell in their Language of Learning and Teaching (LOLT). The aim of the spelling bee was to increase vocabulary and build phonics skills in young pupils. The best speller of the day was Naye Jama, right, from Sophakama Junior Primary School. Jama will go on to compete at district level. The first-, second- and third-place spellers were each rewarded with a book prize/package from Oxford Book Sellers and Pearson Publishers
