An ANC councillor is believed to have been the victim of an armed robbery at the Red Location Museum as he awaited the arrival of Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa yesterday.
Mthethwa was in Port Elizabeth to launch the Debut Fund Programme for emerging artists at the Nangoza Jebe Hall in New Brighton. He was later scheduled to visit a Motherwell family and then go to the Red Location Museum.
The councillor was believed to have been waiting in the museum’s parking lot when the robbery occurred, according to police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge.
“I can confirm that a councillor was robbed at gunpoint [of personal belongings including his cellphone] by three men while he was seated in his car in the parking lot,” Beetge said.
