East London-born singer in ‘Idols’ Top 9
EAST London-born singing sensation Christo Daniels has made it through to the South African Idols Season 13 Top 9.
The 21-year-old Buffalo Flats singer did not despair after he did not make the preliminary rounds in Johannesburg – and when the opportunity presented itself in Port Elizabeth, he jumped at the chance of becoming the next South African Idol. He said this had to be one of his greatest achievements so far and having appeared on Idolshad been an amazing experience.
“This has been such a wonderful journey so far. Just making it through theatre week and [now] being in the Top 9 is absolutely great,” said the singer who now resides in Port Elizabeth.
Daniels said being on Idols and, ultimately, winning the competition would open many doors for him in terms of breaking into the music industry and establishing his own brand as Christo Daniels.
The Nelson Mandela University Business Management student has always had singing in his blood.
Mom Dorothy Daniels said his love for singing took off when he was only seven months old.
“The support Christo has been receiving is amazing. We are a very close family and make sure we give him all the support we can. Church has also been supporting him as he was in the worship team when he was still in East London, “she said.
Christo will now be on the Top 9 Idols stage joining Paxton Fielies, Phindy Dube, Faith Msibi, Mthokozise Ndaba, Botlhale Phora, Thapelo Esau, Tee Xaba and Lindo Sithole.
The show is not only fun and games when elimination time comes around. “The toughest moment on the show for me has to be the elimination process because you never know what is going to happen next. I felt this when I was in the bottom two of the top 10 and fortunately the judges saved me,” he said. Christo says being the first person in his family to make it to this stage in a competition, is a tremendous achievement to both him and his family.
“I can only pray that he does well. I am very excited for him, this is his dream and he is doing what he loves. “I just want him to enjoy his Idols journey and we always look forward to the next show as you never know what might happen next,” Dorothy said.
Christo has had lots of fun and said that it is even more fun when (judge) Somizi Mhlongo is around. “Somizi is so much fun, on and off camera he jokes all the time and his comments are hilarious,” he said.
