The New Kwanda project in Pefferville hosted a ‘Fight against Crime Festival’ recently to raise funds to aid their crime patrols in the area.
The event was held to raise awareness and funds so that patrollers can receive a stipend, or to buy food for the mostly unemployed people that help patrol the crime-ridden areas of Pefferville and Parkridge. The group has already had successes in the area, disarming many and, according to the residents, bringing down the crime rate. New Kwanda also do a lot to try and keep the youth off the street and off alcohol, drugs and criminal acts. The event was attended by hundreds of people, including these children who took part in the indigenous games on the day Picture: ETHIENNE ARENDS
