Gunmen target EL businesses

Armed robbers fled with large amounts of cash in two robberies that took place in East London on Friday night.

The first robbery took place at McDonald’s in Amalinda. The second robbery took place at the nearby Caltex garage on the Amalinda main road.

Police spokesman Captain Mluleki Mbi said there had been no arrests in the two incidents and investigations were continuing. McDonald’s spokesman Donald Padayachee yesterday apologised profusely for “a traumatic experience for their customers”.

Caltex owner Erhare Richter confirmed the robbery.
