BCM delegation visit India to boost tourism

Buffalo City Municipality (BCM) Portfolio Head for Economic Development and Agencies Councillor Mawethu Marata recently led a team that took part in the Tourism Market Road Shows in India.

The team, consisting of BCM Head of Department of Tourism, Noludwe Ncokazi and Tourism Coordinator, Miranda Nofeliti, visited Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and New Delhi.

“The aim of the roadshows was to sell South Africa and BCM abroad as a responsible, caring and sustainable tourism place,” said BCM’s Tourism unit’s Sibusiso Cindi.

The BCM delegation aimed to get tourists to visit and invest in Buffalo City by advertising East London’s beaches, rich culture and heritage, safari parks, adventure activities and stunning landscapes to the Indian communities.

“We tried to convince the Indians not just to stop at Johannesburg but to come to the Eastern Cape in Buffalo City as well”, said Councillor Marata.

“Tourism must not be underrated as it contributes significantly to the local Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Our ambitions are to see economic growth and sustainable jobs in the City,” he added.
