Suspects arrested for business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearm

MEMBERS of the King William’sTown Police Cluster arrested two business robbery suspects who allegedly attempted to rob a supermarket in Dimbaza on Tuesday morning.

KWT spokeswoman Captain Siphokazi Mawisa said it was alleged that five suspects entered the supermarket and demanded cash, cigarettes and airtime vouchers on Tuesday morning at 8am.

“The suspects took the items at gunpoint and fled the scene in two vehicles, a Hyundai I20 and a white Toyota.”

She said police received a complaint of five suspects who had robbed the supermarket and spotted the suspects fitting the description and gave a chase.

“Police managed to stop a vehicle at Wellington Street and arrested two suspects and recovered two Norinco firearms with 14 ammunition,” said Mawisa.

KWT Cluster Commander Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga praised the members of the police for their thorough investigation and swift response.

“Police will ensure that firearms are taken off the streets in ensuring safety of our communities,” said Ngubelanga.

Mawisa said suspects will appear in the Dimbaza Magistrate court soon.
