ABOUT 12 Spaza shops were shut down this past weekend after they were found guilty of selling expired goods in King Williams Town, Zwelitsha.
According to Police spokeswoman Siphokazi Mawisa members of the police with assistance from Environmental Health Officers visited Spaza shops in the area for non-compliance.
“They were found with expired goods and selling sour milk that is not pasteurised,” she said.
Taverns and shebeens were also visited to check non-compliance’s and those not abiding by the constitution were also shut down.
“Roadblocks were conducted on N6 where traffic and fines to the value of R6000 were issued to motorists,” said Mawisa.
KWT SAPS Cluster Commander Brigadier Luntu Ngubelanga praised the police for their dedication in ensuring that citizens are safe and secure.
“I want to also thank stakeholders that are always positive and available to be part of our operations in the fight against crime. We will keep on doing operations and ensuring that perpetrators are behind bars,” he said.
Suspects appeared on different magistrate courts this week.
