Born in 1945, Peter Townshend is most famous for his role as lead guitarist and principal songwriter for the internationally-celebrated rock band The Who. Over the course of his career Townshend has been credited on over 100 songs and played a major role in creating albums such as Tommy, Quadrophenia, and Who’s Next which have gone on to become classics of the genre. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame along with the rest of The Who in 1990 and was awarded a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.
